The little cove of brackish water
Glyfoneri is a small sandy cove on the northwest coast of Thasos, near Skala Rachoniou, the harbour settlement of the mountain village of Rachoni. Its name points to "glyfo nero", the Greek term for the brackish water found where fresh water mingles with the sea.
It is a hidden inlet tucked among the pines, one of the more discreet corners of northwest Thasos, away from the larger resort settlements. The pines descend to the sand and offer natural shade, while the surrounding countryside of olive groves and streams keeps its rural character.
It is unorganized, but there is a taverna nearby and a parking area, reached by a paved road in the Skala Rachoniou area.
