Sheltered beaches in the Meltemi
In July and August the Meltemi can blow strong from the north across the Aegean. The right beach is usually one that is sheltered from the current wind direction, not simply the most popular one.
Check today's recommendations →Which coasts stay calmer
When the Meltemi blows from the north, south and southwest-facing bays are often more protected, while exposed north coasts pick up wind and chop. The sheltered side changes with the wind direction, so CalmBeach checks exposure against today's forecast.
A cautious recommendation
CalmBeach only endorses a beach as more sheltered when the exposure and forecast support it. On strong wind days it prefers caution and reminds you to follow local flags and lifeguard guidance.
