Beach guides

Pick what you are looking for, then the island. Each guide lists the beaches that match and links straight through to live wind and wave conditions.

Every guide here starts from the shape of the coast: which way a beach faces, what stands between it and the open sea, and where waves can reach it from. That is why two beaches on the same island can give you a completely different day in the same wind.

These are not "prettiest beach" lists. Each one is a selection based on data we can point at — orientation, access, facilities, what the seabed is made of — and every beach named links to its own page with current wind and waves.

Sheltered in the meltemi

Where to go when the meltemi blows: coasts whose orientation puts them away from the northerly, based on the exposure model.

Sheltered in the maistros

Ionian coasts that are usually more comfortable when the maistros picks up in the afternoon.

Sheltered in the summer wind

Coasts around the Thermaic gulf whose orientation keeps the Vardaris and the afternoon sea breeze off them.

Family beaches

Beaches recorded as family-friendly: shallow water and a gentle way into the sea, usually with shade or a canteen somewhere nearby.

Snorkeling beaches

Where the seabed has rock or seagrass close in, so there is something to look at the moment you put your head under.

Organized beaches

Umbrellas, sunbeds and beach service, from the facilities recorded for each beach rather than from a review score.

Secluded beaches

Away from the road and the crowd. Most of these ask for a short walk, a dirt track or a boat, so read the access line before you set off.

Sunset beaches

Shores whose orientation faces west, so the sun goes down into the sea in front of you instead of behind the hill.

Sandy beaches

Sand only. Mixed sand-and-pebble shores are left out on purpose — someone looking for sand is choosing it over pebbles.

Beaches with a beach bar

A bar on the sand itself, not a taverna up the road: somewhere you can get a drink without leaving the beach.

Guides for the whole of Greece

How these guides are made

Where do the beaches in each guide come from?

From the beach dataset behind the site: coastline orientation, access type, facilities and terrain, plus curated corrections. A beach appears in a guide only when its own record matches the topic — nothing is written to fill a page.

Why does a guide only exist for some islands?

A guide is published only when an island has enough matching beaches to be worth reading. Below that threshold the page would be a list of two names, so it is not published at all.

Do the guides show current conditions?

No — a guide page is fixed text. Wind, waves and water temperature live on each beach page and on the map, which update through the day. Use the guide to choose where, then check the beach page before you go.
