The rocky shore with the ancient tower
Thymonia is a sandy and rocky shore at the southeastern tip of Thasos, between Aliki and the monastery of Archangel Michael. Its setting is made of sand, pebbles and rock, in a remote corner of the island.
On the shore stands an impressive ancient circular tower, roughly fifteen metres in internal diameter. The prevailing view is that it was part of a fortified 6th-century BC farmstead that watched over the marble quarry of Aliki and the district's mines, while also serving as a marker for navigation. It is considered the largest known surviving circular tower in the Aegean.
The beach is unorganized, but there is a parking area, a taverna nearby, and sunbeds with umbrellas at an adjacent hotel section. Access is by car or taxi.
