The free northern end of Chiliadou
The naturist beach of Chiliadou occupies the northern end of eastern Evia's famous shore, below the slopes of Mount Dirfys. A large rock separates it from the main section of Chiliadou, and it is reached on foot from the central beach. It is mentioned as one of the best-known and most established naturist beaches in Greece.
Chiliadou is said to have served as a pirate anchorage in older times, and its name comes from the nearby Byzantine chapel of Panagia tis Chiliadous. According to one tradition, it was the thousandth church built by Empress Theodora. At the eastern end of the shore, the gorge descending from Stropones reaches the sea, thick with plane trees, completing a setting where the mountain drops straight into the Aegean.
This section is unorganized, with no fixed facilities, though the services of the main Chiliadou beach are close by. The shore is pebble and rock with spots of natural shade, and the water deepens quickly.
