The shore with the medieval tower islet

Nisiotissa stretches along northern Evia, about one kilometre west of Neos Pyrgos and close to Agiokampos, on the Oreoi channel. It owes its name to the rocky islet rising a few metres off the shore, which gives the landscape its distinctive stamp.

The islet, known as 'Monastiri', holds the ruins of a medieval structure from the Frankish era, dated to the 13th or 14th century, whose use remains uncertain: it has been proposed as a watchtower, a Frankish chapel, or even a mill. The islet also preserves the ruins of a tower from the years of the Ottoman Empire, and a grave of the medieval period has been found there. The islet can only be reached by swimming or by boat.

The shore is pebble and coarse sand, unorganized and without natural shade, so an umbrella is essential. The road reaches close to the beach, with roadside parking, while cafes, tavernas and the services of the nearby settlements are a short distance away in Neos Pyrgos and Agiokampos.
