The double beach of Kali and Kakia
Kalamos stretches along the east coast of central Evia, in front of the seaside settlement of the same name in the Kymi-Aliveri municipality, about 67 kilometres from Chalkida. Its defining feature is that it is a double beach: a large rock in the middle splits the shore into two successive coves facing the Aegean.
Locals call the two coves Kali and Kakia, "the good one" and "the bad one", names that local tradition links to how differently the sea behaves in each. The first cove gathers the settlement's life and services, while Kakia, only a few metres further on, remains freer and is mentioned as a haunt of those who prefer a more untouched setting.
Access is by road, paved up to near the beach, and the facilities are concentrated in the first cove: seasonal sunbeds, cafes and tavernas close by, with parking or street parking nearby. The shore is coarse sand and pebble with some shaded spots, and the seabed deepens fairly quickly.
