The "Blue Lake" of Kymi
Thapsa lies on the east coast of central Evia, near Vitala in the Kymi-Aliveri municipality, south of Kymi. The beach has earned the nickname "the blue lake" for the look of its cove, and for years it was known only to those who had explored the island inch by inch.
Its remote character is now formally recognised: Thapsa has been included in the national list of "untouched beaches", within a Natura 2000 network area, alongside fewer than two hundred shores across Greece where umbrellas and sunbeds may not be installed. The beach thus keeps its unspoiled face to this day.
Access is among the most demanding in Evia: a rough dirt road of roughly ten kilometres that calls for a suitable vehicle and care, while a seasonal kaiki approach from Kymi is also mentioned. It is unorganized, with no fixed facilities, fine and coarse sand, spots of natural shade and shallow water.
