The gorge with the stalactites and the pond
Schinodavlia lies on the southeastern coast of Evia, at the mouth of the Agios Dimitrios gorge in the Karystia area, and is also referred to as Paralia Agiou Dimitriou. It belongs to the wider Ochi region and remains one of the island's lesser-known shores, with a sandy strip meeting water that deepens fairly quickly.
Its character is rare by Evia standards: the limestone gorge of Agios Dimitrios ends here between steep cliffs, and stalactites formed over centuries hang above the shore, dripping spring water. Behind the beach, the Porfyra stream forms a small pond, a 'limniona' as locals call such estuaries, frequented by frogs and birds.
The beach is unorganized, with no fixed facilities and only limited, informal parking, and the landscape keeps its wild natural character intact. The route to the shore is not precisely documented, so it is worth asking locally before visiting.
