Dunes and plane trees at the stream's mouth
Potami lies at the southeastern tip of Evia, near Platanistos in the Karystos region, on the coast facing the sea passage of Kafireas (Kavo Doro). It takes its name from the Platanistos stream, which reaches the sea across the beach, creating a small oasis of plane trees.
The beach forms a wide band of sand with dunes, open to the Aegean, a setting that stands out along the Karystia coastline. Higher up, Platanistos, the southernmost village toward Kavo Doro, is known for its running waters, stone bridges and watermill, while the Kafireas strait has long been a historic passage for Aegean seafarers.
It remains unorganized and remote, with no fixed facilities, fine and coarser sand, deep water, and natural shade near the plane trees at the stream mouth. Access is by a local road, but the route is isolated and calls for care, and parking is limited and informal.
