The endless shallows outside Chalkida

Bournontas lies northwest of Chalkida, near Drosia, on the shore of the North Evian Gulf. It is a small stretch of fine sand best known for its remarkably shallow seabed: it is said that however far out you walk, the water barely gets deeper.

The smooth, sandy bottom that continues far out into the sea is what sets the beach apart on the map of central Evia. Its short distance from Chalkida, and by extension from Athens, has established it as an easy day trip for people in the area.

The beach is unorganized and has no natural shade, but a canteen or cafe and tavernas operate nearby, and the neighbouring settlement covers basic needs. Access is by a paved road that reaches close to the shore, with parking close by.
