The little white cove of Plakias
Mikro Ammoudi, also known as Ammoudaki, is a small cove on the south coast of Rethymno, Crete, next to Damnoni and a few kilometres east of Plakias. Its name is the diminutive of neighbouring Ammoudi, the largest sandy beach of this little cluster of coves, and it describes exactly what it is: a small corner of coarse white sand set among the rocks.
On its western side a sea cave is reported, where the light turns the water a vivid blue, as well as an underwater passage said to connect the cove with the neighbouring Klisidi shore. The area around Plakias is among the most characteristic of Rethymno's south, with tall limestone slopes dropping to the sea, and Ammoudaki is traditionally mentioned as a favourite spot of naturists.
The beach is not organized; there is a taverna nearby, and the terrain alternates coarse sand, pebbles and rocks. Access is by a short local road from Damnoni.

Mikro Ammoudi is oriented towards the south-west, so it usually has natural cover from northerly, north-easterly and north-westerly winds. Orientation only reflects which way the coast faces, not confirmed shelter, so check wind and waves in the app before you go.
