Bali's first, broad sandy beach
Livadi is the first and largest sandy beach at Bali, on the north coast of Rethymno in Crete. It spreads along an open bay at the entrance to the seaside village and is the longest of the local beaches. Its name, meaning meadow, points to the green pastureland and lush vegetation that runs down toward the sea.
Bali stands on the site of ancient Atali, which served as the port of mountain-set Axos from Minoan times. The village is strung across four successive coves between hills that reach the waterline, with Livadi opening first as you arrive.
It is organized, with sunbeds, umbrellas, a cafe and parking nearby, and it is among the Blue Flag awarded beaches for 2026. The ground is fine sand, and access runs by a surfaced road to near the beach.
