The long shore with the waterfall
Ligres spreads along the south coast of Rethymno, Crete, about 7 kilometres south of the village of Kerames, at the foot of Mount Siderotas. It is a long, natural shore of coarse sand and pebbles, one of the most extensive on this side of the prefecture, away from large settlements.
At its western end a stream comes down to the sea, forming a small waterfall said to carry water all year round, a rare sight for a beach in southern Crete. A reddish rock stands out in the middle of the shore, while striking rock formations continue towards its ends. Neighbouring shores include Katsouni, Agia Fotini and, further along, Triopetra.
The beach is not organized; taverns and a few rooms operate at its western end. Access is by a narrow paved road from Kerames, which is not in good condition along its whole length.
