The perfect Ω-shaped bay

It forms a near-perfect Ω-shaped (omega) semicircular bay ("ox-belly", hence the name), with golden fine sand and shallow, gentle water — one of the most photographed beaches in Greece. Unorganized and undeveloped, within Natura 2000, with protected dunes and the Gialova lagoon behind it (250+ bird species).

By tradition it is linked to Homer’s "sandy Pylos"; from its southwest end a path climbs to Nestor’s Cave and the Frankish castle of Paliokastro.
