Golden sand and cedars facing Mani

Kato Nisi beach, also known as Panagia, lies on the western side of Elafonisos, in Lakonia, facing the coasts of Mani. It is a long strip of fine golden sand, around 1,200 metres, spread out before dunes and a rare cedar forest.

Above the sand stands the picturesque chapel of Panagia, which gives the beach its second name. Small rocky islets rise within the bay; according to local tradition, the area was linked to the Cyclopes and the islets were called the 'Cyclops' stones'. In winter, rainwater collects to form a small lake that locals call Limnitsa.

Access is by road and there is parking nearby, while seasonal facilities operate in sections. Cafes and tavernas are in the area, and there is shade on parts of the beach.
