The hidden cove that charmed Hollywood
Alypa is a small, hidden cove on the eastern coast of Lakonian Mani, with white pebbles and a narrow shoreline. It historically served as a little landing point for the area, well away from the crowds.
The beach gained international recognition when it was chosen as a filming location for the American film 'Tempest' (1982), directed by Paul Mazursky, whose cast included John Cassavetes and Susan Sarandon. A small pier survives at its northern end, welcoming boats.
This is a non-organized beach of white pebbles; access is by a local paved road that reaches close to the cove. A taverna operates nearby, but you should not expect full facilities, so it is worth coming prepared.
