Two sandy coves at the edge of Tainaron

Marmari lies at the southern tip of Mani, near Cape Tainaron, in Lakonia. It is in fact two neighbouring coves of fine golden sand, tucked between steep hills along the road toward Tainaron.

The name is attributed, according to local tradition, to the ancient white-marble quarries of the wider Tainaron area. The spot is a common stop for those exploring the southernmost point of mainland Greece, with the lighthouse and the ancient sanctuary of Poseidon at Tainaron a little further on.

The first beach has direct road access on a paved road and seasonal facilities, while the second requires a short walk. Tavernas, cafes and parking are nearby; there is no natural shade, so it is worth bringing an umbrella.
