Vathy: the long sands near Gythio

Vathy is a large sandy beach near Gythio in Lakonia. It spreads across the bay of the same name on the Mani coast, with fine and coarse sand along its length.

The bay is framed by lush vegetation at the northern edge of Mani. The shore is reported as a nesting site for the Caretta caretta sea turtle, which gives the area particular natural interest.

It is an organized beach with a beach bar and cafe, seasonal umbrellas and sunbeds, showers and WC in the summer months, and parking nearby. The shallow water and sand make it a convenient choice for families.
