Three coves on the road to Toroni

Aretes lies on the southwestern coast of Sithonia in Halkidiki, along the road from Neos Marmaras to Toroni, about five kilometres before it. It is not one beach but a chain of three coves: the main southern one, roughly 400 metres long, and two smaller ones further north, one rocky and one sandy.

Their character is half-wild: golden sand, pines and low rocky outcrops frame the bays, and many say the atmosphere recalls the Halkidiki of earlier decades. A little further south lies Toroni, on the site of ancient Torone, one of the important cities of ancient Halkidiki.

The beach is not organized as a whole: a small bar and a few sunbeds with umbrellas operate seasonally, with a taverna or restaurant nearby in the same period, while plenty of open space remains and there is natural shade too. The terrain is fine sand, and access is from the Neos Marmaras-Toroni road, with about 500 metres of mixed surface (partly dirt track) down to the shore, where parking is available.
