The white rocks with the crab burrows

Kavourotrypes lies on the east coast of Sithonia in Halkidiki, between Armenistis and Platanitsi, a chain of small coves with fine sand and sculpted white rocks. The name is said to come from the holes and crevices in the rocks where crabs once nested, while the largest cove became known as Portokali, after the seasonal beach spot of the same name.

The landscape feels almost sculptural: white granite masses rise out of the sand and dense pines run down to the waterline, with Mount Athos outlined across the Siggitikos Gulf. A local landmark was the "stone mermaid", reported to have been carved into the rocks in 1997 by sculptor Dionysis Karypidis and destroyed by the artist himself in 2015, after a fine from the municipality.

The main cove operates as an organized beach in high season, with sunbeds, umbrellas and a beach bar, while the small coves around it remain undeveloped. Access is via a dirt track off the main road, with informal and limited parking, and the water deepens fairly quickly.
