The little harbor of the Byzantine Panagia
Ormos Panagias beach lies at the northeastern tip of Sithonia in Halkidiki, fronting the seaside settlement of the same name, which serves as the harbor of Agios Nikolaos. The village took its name from the church of Panagia, reported to have been built in Byzantine times and reconstructed around 1970.
Ormos Panagias keeps the character of a small fishing village and is best known as the departure point for boat cruises around the Athos peninsula. According to local tradition, on the Tuesday after Easter the residents of Agios Nikolaos descend in a procession carrying their holy icons, ending at the Panagia by the bay.
The shore has fine sand and shallow water, with seasonal sunbeds and umbrellas in sections. A paved road reaches close to the beach, while cafes, tavernas and the village amenities are a short walk away, with parking nearby or along the road.
