The long sandy bay of Paliouri

Chrouso beach stretches along the bay of the same name near Paliouri, at the southern tip of Kassandra in Halkidiki. It is one of the peninsula's largest sandy shores, with pale fine sand running for close to one and a half kilometres and dense green vegetation as its backdrop.

The area has deep roots in time: the ancient city of Therambos, mentioned by Herodotus, is believed to have stood near Paliouri. The village's name itself is said to come from the paliouria, the thorny shrubs locals once used to fence their houses. Above the bay stands the historic Xenia hotel, a work of the architect Aris Konstantinidis from the early 1960s and a well-known landmark of the area.

The beach is not organized with confirmed fixed facilities, although seasonal beach bars are reported in parts of the bay. A paved road leads close to the shore, parking is limited or informal, the water in front of the sand is shallow, and there are spots with natural shade.
