The bay that recalls Voidokoilia

Kalamitsi sits at the southern tip of Sithonia in Halkidiki, fronting a small seaside village a few kilometers from Sykia, facing the Siggitikos Gulf. The place name is a diminutive of the Greek word kalami, meaning reed, and most likely refers to the reeds that once grew in the area.

The embrace of sand closes almost into a circle between low rocks, a shape that has earned Kalamitsi the nickname "little Voidokoilia of Halkidiki", after the famous beach in Messinia. The settlement, with only a few dozen permanent residents, was nearly unknown until the late 20th century and grew into a popular summer destination precisely because of its beach.

The shore has fine sand and water that deepens fairly quickly. There are organized sections with seasonal sunbeds, umbrellas and a beach bar, cafes and tavernas close by, and access is easy from Sithonia's main paved road, with parking nearby or along the roadside.
