Small coves among the rocks

Tigania lies in southeastern Sithonia, Halkidiki, between Sykia and Kriaritsi, close to Kalamitsi. It is not a single shore but a string of small fine-sand coves separated from one another by rocks.

Its unusual name is most often traced to the shape of the small, almost circular coves, which seen from above recall frying pans (tigania in Greek). Nearby Sykia is considered one of the oldest villages of Sithonia and appears in 14th-century Athonite documents, while several ancient cities once flourished across the peninsula. The landscape alternates low rocks with small tongues of sand, giving the place the feel of a hidden corner.

Seasonal beach bars with sunbeds and umbrellas operate in the main coves, though there is no natural shade. The water deepens quickly. Access is via a network of local dirt roads between Sykia, Kalamitsi and Kriaritsi and is described as difficult, with parking small or along the road.
