The twin coves with the mark on the rock

Spathies is a small stretch of coast in western Sithonia, a few kilometres south of Nikiti, between Kalogria and Elia. The name is said to come from a mark on the rock, which tradition holds was carved by a sword.

The shore divides into two coves separated by a rocky mass: a small one, around fifty metres long, and a bigger sandy one further south, where the vegetation casts deep shade. Pines, rocks and low cliffs frame the scene, and the spot is often described as one of Sithonia's hidden paradises.

The beach is entirely unorganized, with no facilities at all, so visitors bring their own water and umbrella. The terrain combines fine sand with rocks, the shallow water lends itself to snorkeling, and access is via a passable dirt track that takes a little effort.
