The waterfront of a village with monastic roots
Nikiti beach spreads out in front of the seaside quarter of Nikiti, on the west coast of Sithonia, where the road sets off south towards Neos Marmaras. It is the village's main shore, with coarse sand and pebbles, and it is among the Halkidiki beaches awarded a Blue Flag.
Nikiti is one of Halkidiki's historic villages: it appears in the medieval sources as a holding of Mount Athos monasteries, and by one account the name derives from the metochi of the Land of Neakitos, by another from Saint Nikitas, the village's patron saint. The old village, built further inland, as is said, to avoid pirate raids, preserves to this day the church of Agios Nikitas of 1867 and traditional Macedonian architecture.
The beach is organized in sections, with sunbeds and umbrellas seasonally, while cafes, tavernas and the amenities of the settlement line the waterfront. Access is by paved road to near the shore, with parking nearby or along the road.
