The sands beneath the Sani tower

Sani Hill beach lies on the west coast of Kassandra, Halkidiki, in the Sani area, below the hill crowned by the historic Stavronikita tower. The name Sani goes back to antiquity: an ancient city of the same name flourished here, founded by colonists from Eretria.

The tower on the hilltop was built in 1543 for the metochi, a dependency of the Athonite monastery of Stavronikita, and survives in good condition to our days, while the ancient city is reported to lie partly beneath the sea. Around the beach spread pine woods, sand dunes and the Sani wetlands, home to a wealth of bird species, flamingos among them.

The shore is fine sand, with natural shade from the pines in places. Facilities are those of the adjacent resort, with dining close by, and both access and parking run through the resort grounds.

About this beach

Sani Hill is exposed in the meltemi — often choppy on summer N/NE days. That comes from the measured shape of the coastline around it and our curated wind records — a seasonal picture, not a live forecast, so check live wind and waves before you go.

Sani Hill is oriented towards the north-west, so it usually has natural cover from northerly, north-easterly and easterly winds.

Sani Hill has sand underfoot with shallow, gently shelving water — handy for families with young children.

For amenities, Sani Hill has an organised beach, sunbeds, natural shade and parking nearby. There is a campsite nearby (Blue Dream Camping (Sena), ~805 m).
