The long sandy front on the Thermaic Gulf

The Plagia-Flogita beach stretches along the west coast of Halkidiki, on the Thermaic Gulf, in front of the villages of Nea Plagia and Nea Flogita in the municipality of Nea Propontida. It is a long, continuous front of fine sand, among the most extensive in western Halkidiki, about 50 kilometres from Thessaloniki.

Both villages behind it are refugee settlements of the 1920s: Nea Plagia was founded by refugees from Plagia in Eastern Thrace, and Nea Flogita by Cappadocians from Flogita in Asia Minor. The wider area, however, has been inhabited far longer, as the prehistoric toumba mound near Nea Plagia shows, while sections of the shore are among the Blue Flag awarded beaches.

The beach has organized and free sections, with sunbeds, umbrellas and a beach bar in season, while cafes and tavernas are close by. The water is shallow near the shore, access is by a paved road to near the beach, and there is parking or street parking.
