The shore by the sanctuary of Zeus Ammon
Kallithea beach spreads out in front of the resort of the same name on the eastern coast of Kassandra, Halkidiki, looking over the Toroneos gulf. The settlement's name means "beautiful view", and its long fine-sand shore is among the busiest on the peninsula.
A few steps from the shore stands one of Halkidiki's most important ancient monuments: the sanctuary of Zeus Ammon. On this spot, with its springs, dense vegetation and a natural cave, the people of ancient Aphytis, colonists from Euboea, had long worshipped Dionysus and the Nymphs. An altar dedicated to Zeus Ammon rose in the late 5th century BC and a Doric temple beside it in the 4th century BC. The sanctuary came to light in 1969, during works for the construction of a hotel.
The beach is organized, with seasonal sunbeds, umbrellas and a beach bar, while cafes and tavernas sit very close by. Access is via a paved road with parking nearby or on the street, the water in front of the sand is shallow, and the shore is among those awarded the Blue Flag for 2026.
