The broad beachfront of eastern Kassandra
Hanioti beach spreads out in front of the resort village of the same name on the eastern coast of Kassandra, Halkidiki. Tradition holds that the village was named after its first settler, an innkeeper who kept a hani, a roadside inn, in the area, while another version has him coming from Chania in Crete.
The settlement moved to the spot it occupies to our days in 1936, after the great earthquake that struck the region in the early 1930s, and from the mid-20th century it grew into one of Kassandra's main tourist destinations. Its long sandy shore continues toward neighbouring Polychrono, and sections of the coast are among those awarded the Blue Flag.
The beach is organized, with sunbeds, umbrellas and a beach bar operating seasonally, and cafes and tavernas immediately at hand. The sand shifts from fine to coarser, access is by paved road, and parking is available nearby or along the road.
