Ammouliani's wild, untouched edge

Faka lies on Ammouliani, the only inhabited island of Halkidiki, and is one of its most remote shores, far from the port and the village. Its sandy stretch, with fine sand and rocks at its edges, runs for a good length below low hills, with no infrastructure behind it.

The island itself has a distinctive history: until 1925 it was a metochi of the Vatopedi Monastery of Mount Athos, and it was then granted to refugees from the islands of the Propontis, who brought with them their seafaring and fishing tradition. Faka, on the flip side of that story, remained outside the settlements and fields and keeps to this day an entirely natural character, one of the most untouched corners of the island.

It is completely unorganized, with no sunbeds, shade or other facilities, so visitors bring whatever they need with them. Access is via a short walk, while sources note that many visitors prefer to arrive by boat from Ammouliani's port.
