The 'good well' of Lavreotiki

Kalopigado, formerly known as Vromopousi, is a seaside settlement and beach of Lavreotiki on the east coast of Attica, between Daskalio and Mikrolimano. The old name is said to come from the Arvanitika word 'pousi', meaning well: the 'dirty well' was renamed in the 1980s to the more flattering Kalopigado, the 'good well'.

The settlement grew right behind the beach of the same name and keeps the scale of Keratea's small holiday villages. The view opens east across the Petalioi Gulf, while a few kilometres to the south lies Lavrio, heart of a region with a long mining history, from the ancient silver mines to the workings of the 19th century.

A paved road leads close to the shore, with parking on the harbour side. The beach mixes coarse sand and pebbles with shallow water and works as a free beach with seasonally organized spots: umbrellas and sunbeds in the summer months and a canteen or taverna nearby. Natural shade is limited.
