The cove with the lovers' cave

Erotospilia is a small cove just past Porto Rafti on the eastern coast of Attica. It owes its name to the cave that opens in its rocks: couples in love are said to have found a hideaway there, away from the eyes of passers-by.

The wider Porto Rafti in turn owes its name to the Roman-era marble statue on top of the islet of Rafti at the entrance to the bay, which tradition holds resembles a seated tailor (raftis). The Erotospilia cove combines sand and pebbles, with rocks closing off the beach on both sides and trees at its edges offering natural shade.

Access is easy, with parking near the beach. It is unorganized, with no facilities of its own, though a beach bar nearby and seasonal water sports are reported. The water gains depth fairly quickly.
