The south-facing bay with the Venetian name
Lombarda lies at Agia Marina Koropiou, on the coastal route toward Sounio, about forty minutes from central Athens. The beach faces south onto the Saronic Gulf and is now better known as Mojito Bay, after the beach club of the same name that operates here.
Its name has a story of its own: it is said to come from the Lombarda tunnel on the Sounio coastal road, which lent its name to the shore, while the word itself, of Venetian origin, once meant a cannon and, by extension, the tunnels engineers blasted through rock. The surrounding coast was named Agia Marina after the local church of the same name.
The beach has coarse sand and pebbles, shallow water and limited natural shade. There are organised sections with seasonal food service and a beach volley court, while the paved road reaches close to the shore and parking is available.
