The Blue Flag municipal beach

Avlaki lies about four kilometres south of Porto Rafti, in the municipality of Markopoulo Mesogaias in East Attica. It is the area's municipal beach, a stretch of fine sand at the base of the Koroni peninsula, awarded the Blue Flag.

The bay of Porto Rafti, one of Attica's natural anchorages, is said to take its name from the Roman marble statue on the islet of Raftis at its entrance, which reminded sailors of a seated tailor ('raftis'). On the Koroni peninsula next to Avlaki survive traces of fortification attributed to a camp of the Hellenistic era.

The beach operates as an organized municipal shore with ticketed entry to its organized section: seasonal umbrellas and sunbeds, a restaurant-bar, showers, WC and changing rooms, with a lifeguard and a first-aid room in the summer months and parking nearby. A paved road leads to it, the water is shallow, and natural shade is limited.
