The golden sands just west of Chania town
Chrysi Akti sits just a few kilometres west of Chania town, in Nea Kydonia, right next to Agioi Apostoloi. It owes its name to the golden colour of its fine sand, which also gave the area its international name, Golden Beach.
In practice it consists of two sandy coves separated by a low hillock, on a shoreline of successive small headlands and pine-topped rises beside Chania's seaside residential front. The beach has been awarded a Blue Flag and is among the best-known organized shores on the north coast of the prefecture.
It is fully organized, with sunbeds and umbrellas in season, a seasonal lifeguard and showers, while food, water and accommodation are all close at hand. The water is shallow, there is natural shade in places, and a paved road reaches close to the beach.
