The great boulder west of Paleochora
Psilos Volakas lies about one and a half kilometres west of Paleochora in Chania, beside the road leading towards Koundoura and Krios. It takes its name from the great boulder, the volakas, that rises at the end of the beach and serves as its landmark.
The shore is part of a string of successive coves spread along the southern coast of Selino, with fine pebbles and scattered rocks. Clusters of tamarisk trees cast their shade behind the beach, while the imposing rock at its edge is also mentioned as a favourite spot for diving off. A sidewalk along the road makes it possible to walk here from Paleochora.
The beach is organized, with seasonal sunbeds and umbrellas, showers and options for food and water close by. The pebbles are fine, there is rocky shade in places, and a paved road passes right alongside.
