The white sculpted rocks of Aradena
Marmara lies at the mouth of the Aradena gorge in Sfakia, about five kilometres west of Loutro and far from any road. It takes its name from the white, smooth rocks that frame the little cove and resemble marble, sculpted by the sea into slabs, carved hollows and small sea caves.
The Aradena gorge, which ends here, descends from the Lefka Ori mountains and is cited as one of the deepest and most impressive in Crete. The small pebble shore traditionally serves as a resting stop for hikers coming down the gorge, before they continue along the coastal path towards Loutro.
The beach has pebbles and deep water and is partly organized, with sunbeds and umbrellas in season and food and water available close by. Access is on foot or by boat only.
