The town's sandy beach by the marina
Ammos is the central town beach of Agios Nikolaos in Lasithi, Crete, right beside the city's marina and about five hundred metres south of Lake Voulismeni. It stretches along Nearchou street towards the municipal stadium, and its name simply describes exactly what it is: a sandy strip inside the town.
Its position at the opening of the Mirabello gulf makes it a natural extension of a stroll through Agios Nikolaos: Lake Voulismeni, the Archaeological Museum and Kitroplatia are all a few minutes away on foot. The beach is among those awarded the Blue Flag.
It is organized, with sunbeds and umbrellas, fine sand and shallow water. Cafes, food and water are immediately at hand, as is parking, and access is direct via a paved road next to the town centre.
