The cove at the mouth of the Thripti stream
Agia Fotia sits on the south coast of Lasithi, about twelve kilometres east of Ierapetra, near Ferma. The small settlement is said to take its name from the local church of Agia Fotini, known in these parts as Agia Fotia.
The cove forms at the mouth of a stream that comes down from Thripti mountain and disappears among large plane trees, while conglomerate cliffs rise around it and give the landscape a distinctive character. On the beach, with its coarse greyish sand and pebbles, tamarisks provide natural shade in places, and beach volleyball tournaments are reported to be held every year at the local court.
The beach is not formally organized, but there is a taverna and parking, and it holds a Blue Flag award. Access is by paved road from Ierapetra.
