The long sands below the old watchtowers

Komi lies on the southeastern coast of Chios, at the centre of its own bay, stretching along a sandy beach nearly a kilometre long, one of the island's most expansive. It is the port of Kalamoti, the large medieval village about six kilometres inland to the north, and its name is the ancient Greek word for a small settlement or hamlet.

Above the cove to the west rises the conical hill of Prophitis Ilias, while on two rises to the east and west stand vigles, lookout posts that once raised the alarm when pirate ships appeared, so the villagers could take refuge and fortify themselves at Kalamoti. The fertile plain behind the shore was long cultivated, and the watermelons of Komi are still renowned across Chios.

The beach is organized, with fine and coarse sand, tavernas and cafés along its front, seasonal sunbeds and parking, and seasonal lifeguard coverage planned for 2026. It carries a Blue Flag and is reached by a paved road.
