Psili Ammos: fine sand facing Asia Minor

Psili Ammos on eastern Samos is a sandy beach in the southeast of the island, east of Pythagoreio. Its name describes it exactly: fine, soft sand and very shallow water that reaches out for tens of metres.

It lies on the Mycale Strait, at Samos's closest point to the coast of Asia Minor opposite, around a kilometre and a half away. The strait takes its name from Mount Mycale across the water, where the ancient Battle of Mycale was fought in 479 BC. Note that there is a second Psili Ammos on western Samos, with which it is often confused.

Access is easy by a made-up road, with parking nearby. The beach has no natural shade, while tavernas and cafés operate in the area.
