Pappa: a pebbled cove below the Heraion
Pappa is a small pebbled cove on southern Samos, just below the village of Ireon and its ancient sanctuary. It stretches for around a hundred metres of pebbles and coarse sand, beneath rocky slopes and pines.
The name is said to derive from the Greek word for priest, and the beach is also known as Aspros Kavos. It sits very close to the Heraion, the ancient sanctuary of Hera which, together with the Eupalinos Tunnel, forms a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Access is by a made-up road and a short walk down to the cove, with parking nearby. It is not a fully organised beach, but you will find cafés and tavernas close by.
