Giant rocks and little coves

Kavalikefta lies on the west coast of Lefkada, below the village of Kalamitsi and about fifteen kilometres south of the main town. Also called Kalamitsi beach after the village above it, it is a short strip framed by enormous rocks.

No more than ninety metres long, the beach is a run of coarse sand, pebbles and stones broken by huge boulders that form tiny coves. Kalamitsi, the traditional mountain village above, is one of the oldest on the island, and many of its people are said to have left for the cities after a powerful earthquake struck Lefkada in the mid-twentieth century.

Access is by a narrow, winding road of hairpin bends that descends through olive groves from Kalamitsi and calls for careful driving. In season there is food and drink service, parking, and sunbeds and umbrellas for rent.
