The long sandy sweep of Livathos

Avithos beach stretches along the south coast of Kefalonia, in the fertile Livathos district, near the village of Svoronata. It is a long ribbon of fine golden sand, which is why many locals also call it Svoronata beach. Its name echoes the Greek word 'avithos', meaning without a bottom or depth.

Livathos is the low, cultivated plain south of Argostoli, where olive groves and vineyards run down almost to the sea. Avithos is one of the best-known beaches of this coast and has been awarded a Blue Flag.

It is organized, with beach bars, tavernas, sunbeds and umbrellas, as well as a parking area. Access is by a paved road from Svoronata.
