The great bay below Mount Ainos

Lourdata (or Lourdas) lies on the southern coast of Kefalonia, about 17 kilometres southeast of Argostoli, in one of the island's largest bays, which stretches for roughly two kilometres. The sandy and partly coarse-grained shore spreads out at the foot of the mountain.

Above the beach rises Mount Ainos, the highest peak of Kefalonia and a national park, known for its endemic fir trees. The picturesque village of Lourdata, with roots going back centuries, was once home to olive growers and fishermen who lived off the surrounding hills and the sea.

The beach is organized, with beach bars, tavernas, sun loungers, umbrellas and parking, and faces south. Access is by a paved road toward Lourdas.
