The bright-white salt cove

Alaties is a small, brilliant-white cove on the north coast of Kefalonia, in the Erisos region, a few kilometres west of Fiskardo. Its name comes from the word 'alati' (salt): in the natural rock pools of the neighbouring headland, tradition holds that locals gathered for centuries the salt left behind as the seawater evaporated.

The white rocks that give the cove its character are limestones of the Upper Cretaceous, part of the geological bedrock of northern Kefalonia. The beach is one of the listed sites of the Kefalonia-Ithaca Geopark.

A taverna operates above the cove, and there is parking near the entrance. It is small, with pebbles, rock and deep water and seasonal sunbeds, reached by a local road near Fiskardo.
