The chapel that gave the beach its name
Agia Ierousalim sits in the Erisos region of northwestern Kefalonia, about five kilometres from Fiskardo. It is a small pebble cove framed by lush greenery, split into two smaller strands by a cluster of rocks, which is why it is often called a twin beach.
The beach takes its name from the little stone chapel of Agia Ierousalim at the edge of the shore. Tradition holds that it was built by the Norman crusader Robert Guiscard, founder of Fiskardo, in the 11th century. One legend tells that his soldiers, on their way to the Holy Land, fell ill here, drank from a nearby spring, recovered, and raised the chapel in thanks. Another speaks of a prophecy that Guiscard would die the moment he set foot in Jerusalem, and holds that his death on Kefalonia is what gave the beach its name.
Access is by a paved road. It is not organized with sunbeds, but there is a taverna in the area and a parking space.
