The little bay with the islet and the chapel

Atheras, or Porto Atheras, lies on the northern coast of the Paliki peninsula in Kefalonia, at the head of a small, narrow bay with the islet of Atheronisi facing it. It is the port and beach of the village of the same name, built three kilometres higher up at an altitude of around 250 metres.

At one end of the sand stands the picturesque little chapel of Agios Spyridon, with its distinctive blue hue. It belongs to a seafront estate recorded since 1855 and known as the 'Galazio Spiti' (Blue House), a listed survivor of another era. Up in the village on the slope, Saint Paraskevi is honoured, her feast held each 26th of July near the shore.

The beach is sandy, with both fine and coarse sand, and has little organization, with tavernas nearby and parking, but no natural shade. It is reached by a surfaced road.
